Jewish festival of Chanukah

 Jewish festival of Chanukah

This week, the children have been leaning about the Jewish festival of Chanukah. Mrs kauffer, led a wonderful assembly. The children heard all about Judah and the Maccabees and how they strove to be allowed to worship in their temple, culminating in the miracle of the oil in the lamp.

The children discovered the similarities between Christmas and Chanukah - lots of food and fun, a few presents but most importantly spending time with our families and trying to embody our school values: Peace, Love, Understanding and Hope.

To help celebrate and bring in the first night of Chanukah, we lit the first candle and enjoyed a tasty doughnut which was very generously paid for by one of our St John’s families - thank you!

Each child has also been given a Dreidel to take home, with some simple instructions - we hope you have lots of fun playing Spin The Dreidel.
