VE Day

The school came together to commemorate VE Day in a wonderful way. It was a meaningful opportunity for our children to learn about an important moment in history, and to reflect on the sacrifices and triumphs of those who came before us. We were delighted to welcome Radlett Museum, who visited to talk to the children about what life was like during the war, and why VE Day is such a significant day to remember. The children asked thoughtful questions and really engaged with the stories and artefacts shared.
A special highlight was a visit from Mrs Loudon’s father, who served in the Irish Brigade. He gave the children a fun and educational demonstration on how to march like soldiers, which they absolutely loved! Mr Forrester and Mrs Loudon also led a fantastic VE Day workshop, where the children explored the meaning of the day through storytelling and shared memories. We even got to see a lovely photo from 1992 of Mrs Loudon’s father and sister – a touching reminder of personal connections to this piece of history - see picture below.
To round off the day, we held our very own "street party" in the playground – complete with cookies, juice, music, and lots of smiles! Thank you once again for your support. It’s moments like these that remind us of the strength and warmth of our school community.
